about

I first met Ray Reeves in September, 2008 at a Thai restaurant on McDowell and 3rd street near the old Willow House. He was wearing a trucker hat backwards and a cowboy shirt and after I introduced myself to him he said "i'm Ray Reeves the second coming of Jesus Christ" and then he handed me a CDr wrapped in a photo copied piece of paper that had his face photoshopped over an image of Jesus Christ that said "Ray Reeves: The Wait Is Over" the CDr didnt have a tracklist but had extensive (and completely unhinged) liner notes. The next 2-3 times I saw him he handed me a CD with the same paper folded over it even though I told him each time "you already gave me a copy" he would insist "oh this is different" and turns out they were. Ray Reeves made 100's of these CDrs and each one had a different set of songs on them, probably close to 100 songs altogether (maybe more honestly) full of brilliant Captain Beefheart/Butthole Surfers/Suncity Girls style punk+experimental music and art.

Over the next few years I saw him play dozens of times and in many different venues, bars, laundrymats, street corners...etc and even lived with him for about 6 months in 2009 at an old Seventh Day Adventists Rehab facility turned punk house that we called "The Sun House" Playing shows in was incredible, living in that house was an unforgettable and life changing experience.

Ray wasnt around very much but when he was the energy in the house was so big and electricic and contagious. I loved it.

Anyway, here are the songs I could compile from the 2 remaining copies of "The Wait Is Over" that I have. IF you ever get a chance to see him live, you should. he is a real amazing human being that makes Arizona such a wonderful place.
